Division of clinical pharmacology and therapeutics is one of seven divisions of the Department of Medicine at the University Hospital Center (UHC) Rebro in Zagreb, Croatia.

It was established in 1980 as a unit affiliated with the University of Zagreb School of Medicine and today, it is the country’s referral center for clinical pharmacology and therapeutics. The division comprises: an 11 bed hospital ward, outpatient clinic, center for rational pharmacotherapy and pharmacological laboratory.

Our hospital ward serves the patients admitted through the hospital’s emergency room, however patients with therapeutic problems, treatment side effects or a need to be tested for allergic drug reactions are also accommodated on a regular basis as are clinical trial participants, if this is foreseen by the trial’s protocol.

The outpatient clinic staff cater for patients with allergic drug reactions (allergy to antibiotics, pain medication, adjuvants) as well as consult female patients with regards to proper use of medicines during pregnancy, lactation and the potential teratogenic effects of therapy.

Center for rational pharmacotherapy is active primarily in the fields of undergraduate, postgraduate and continuous medical education at the University of Zagreb Medical School and it is the only such entity to be authorized to award “Good Clinical Practice” (GCP) certificates in the Republic of Croatia.

The division’s pharmacological laboratory is a highly specialized, fully equipped and internationally recognized unit capable of conducting phase I, II, III and IV clinical trials as well as bioequivalence and bioavailability studies. Patients are admitted to our daily hospital for skin testing of allergies to anesthetics (local and general) as well as iodine based intravenous contrasts.
